――What was the reason for establishing commmons in the first place?
As you all know, the business of selling CDs has changed dramatically. The form of selling music has become more diverse. Of course, I think that being able to choose various forms is good for both listeners and us who send music. However, the problem is that it doesn't sell like it did in the heyday of CD. Why is this? I was wondering if something was wrong. There may be various business model-like stories, but we musicians, the staff who support us, and the various organisations, of course, should be of high quality so that they can be listened to for as long as possible. commmons is the label I started thinking that I needed it.
――Every label has a general tendency, such as genre or color, but the music released by commmons is really diverse.
I don't care about genre, I don't care about style, and of course I do not care about age or nationality. The only thing I can say is the quality. Artists from all genres come together, some people are more pop, some are more noise, some are more techno, how do you decide to release on commmons? When asked, you can only say quality. The basic idea is to tell everyone what is as good as possible.
--You are not only releasing the works of the artists who have gathered, but also developing series and signing license agreements with overseas labels, right?
Yes, for the series, we are developing what we consider important, such as "Nihon no Uta" and the pillar of commmons called "schola". I'm introducing the licenses of overseas labels to Japan because there is a friendship between musicians, or because my friend has a very good label.
--What kind of future plans do you have for commmons?
The music business is in a state of rough seas all over the world, but what commmons can do as a unique gathering among them is not only CDs, but ambitious new way of delivering music I want to go. Then of course, discovering new talent. I always keep an eye out for good artists and keep my ears close. I think commmons is unique in that when they meet these new artists, they are only trying to provide one of the few features that the old label has. For example, there are artists who do their own music and design, and even if you put your work on your website, you can't let many people know about it, right? We will post it on the EC site we are doing: commmonsmart, a store on the Internet. If so, the chances of being visible to people may increase. Even though there is the Internet, there are situations where each person has a great deal of difficulty, such as having to negotiate in various ways when producing their own music. Therefore, I would like to cooperate with such people in various ways. Anyway, I think commmons' role is to find talented artists and deliver quality music to everyone, so I look forward to your continued support in the future!
