BOREDOMS has been known for their unique characters and experimental approaches since the formation, centering on Yamataka EY Yo.
For 20 years, they have been active under the free idea of changing the band composition, changing members, and sometimes even the band name, such as multiple drums and +DJ, effects, synthesizers, homy etc. There was a big project I saw.
"77boadrum" is a documentary film that was recorded and edited by director Kawaguchi Jun, who has been a friend for 10 years.
New York, July 7, 2007. The event, which took place under the Brooklyn Bridge, brought together 77 different drummers from 7:07. Surprisingly, this is a free concert held with the participation and sponsorship of colleagues and companies who cooperated with this idea in the form of volunteers.
They have been touring overseas with Sonic Youth and Nirvana in the 1990s, and are highly evaluated overseas. Therefore, it was such a great success that some people started to line up from the day before to watch this historic event, and the audience was completely intoxicated by the beautiful, powerful, destructive performances that were held outdoors.
There are 77 drums, which are the most primitive musical instruments, in a relaxing space for New Yorkers. From the EY Yo in the center, it is a sight to see them arranged in a swirl on the grass. And once the members who are completely different in race and skin color hit the drums all at once, I cannot help being overwhelmed by the power!
Co-starring with it are CDJs, disco mixers, effects, and super analog seven guitar kits that EY Yo dancing in the center handles. Natural sounds unique to the outdoor venue, conversations with the audience and cheers are mixed. Exactly the resonance of the soul. This is the real pleasure of BOREDOMS live!
This space leaves a strong impression on what you once tasted. It may be the reason why they are enthusiastically supported all over the world.
The video will consist of a two-day rehearsal scene centered on the drum leader and an interview video of participating artists, centered on the live performance of the day.
However, this is not just a recorded video.
BOREDOMS continues to produce shocking, beautiful and vibrant music, as it did at that time, greedily digesting and purifying all music and culture. I think that is what impresses us.
Yes, this is a legendary trajectory that continues. It's just the beginning of BOREDOMS' great quest for the future.
In recent years, BOREDOMS has been making a big impact on fans both in Japan and overseas by succeeding in the event "77 BOA DRUM" using 77 drums in NY and "88 BOA DRUM" using 88 drums in LA. Their first Tokyo man in 4 years was held on May 28th.
For those years, where overseas tours and outdoor live performances have been at the center of their activities, this day's live is a way away. How does their sound that has been demonstrated to the greatest extent possible in an open venue resonates in a live house in the center of the city? To be honest, I went to the venue O-EAST with a bit of anxiety, but as soon as the live started, I soon realized that it was a melancholy.
EY Yo, YO SHIMI, YOJIRO, Former Black Dice Hisham Barucha, Zack Hill (Hella), Butchy Fuego (Pit Aer Pat), Kid Millions (Oneida), Jeremy Hayman (Ponytail), This day's live performed by Shinji Masuko with 9 members. When the members appeared on the stage, where mixers, effects, and seven drum sets were laid out, a beat like a rumbling sound began from the first song. Furthermore, when a mikoshi with a drum appears from the back of the venue, the voltage at the venue suddenly rises to MAX! In the open air, the open sound that just penetrates the sky, but at this venue, it bounces off the ceiling and falls directly onto the listener. I felt that it was more embossed because it was a live house where the wildness and scale of their sound were small.
After that, the performance continues to be masterpieces. EY Yo runs around the stage endlessly, occasionally working on the mixer and seven guitar kits. In contrast, the drummers who slam the drumming under the direction of EY Yo without any interruption. The storm of beats they released, sometimes simple, and sometimes anomalous, made the whole venue feel more united as if they were possessed by something.
After the main song, which performed 13 songs, two energetic songs were played in Angkor, and the two and a half hour live ended. At the end, I could see a certain sense of accomplishment in the members greeting the audience with a look that the possession had fallen. BOREDOMS has created a sound that cannot be imitated by any other band, based on the explosive explosion of energy and precise calculation. It was a night when I was able to realize the power and potential of their enthusiasm again because it was a live house.
