Fretwork
Stephan Pettitt of the London Evening Standard newspaper described Fretwork as "the finest viol consort on the planet." In 2006, Fretwork celebrated 20 years of performing music both new and old as the world's top viol consort and are challenging themselves to reach new heights going forward. Fretwork has built up a wide repertoire over the years, ranging from 500 year-old compositions (the world's first printed consort, composed in Venice in 1501) to Byrd & Schubert, Purcell & Shostakovich, Gibbons & Britten, Dowland & Grieg (of course), and all the way to music composed this very year. Fretwork's unique outlook on music and their timeless contemporary music have earned them a rapturous reputation from all over the world.
