Kotringo (Rieko Miyoshi)

Born in 1978.
Started playing the piano at the age of five, and writing music at the age of seven.
In 1999, graduated from the Koyo School of Music and Dance, and after receiving a Berklee special scholarship from the same school, participated in the IASJ (UNESCO organization working to promote jazz education) Spain tournament sponsored by David Liebman.
Afterwards, studied abroad at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Majored in Jazz composing/arrangement and piano performance. While attending school, also won a number of awards while working as a regular pianist for a church choir and for piano accompaniment in Berklee's voice department. After earning her degree, moved to NY and participated in various gigs.
From the fall of 2005, started writing songs and making a demo tape at home.
March 2006 Auditioned on J-WAVE's “RADIO SAKAMOTO,” hosted by Ryuichi Sakamoto, where “Nichiyo Machi” was aired (later to be her second single). Also performed in “LOHAS CLASSIC Concert,” which was produced by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
November 2006 Debuted after her song "Konichiwa mata ashita" became a hit in a "Gekkeikann Tsuki" commercial.
June 2007 Released her 1st album "songs in the birdcage". January 2008 Released a mini album "nemurugirl," which included "Fuwafuwa song," a song popular from a Mister Donut commercial.
After moving back to Japan, started performing live and at events more and more, gathering fame as a live performer.
With a transparent yet "funny" voice and piano skills that left even Ryuichi Sakamoto flabbergasted, she has earned the claim to fame.
Kotoringo's music was influenced by classical, jazz, pop, rock, and Shibuya pops.
